Are you interested in building the robots of the future: robots that navigate, make decisions and accomplish tasks without human input? iRobotics features a division entirely dedicated to autonomous robotics. The Autonomous Vehicles division contains three teams: Pacbot, Micromouse and RoboSub.
Pacbot is a team dedicated to building a robot that autonomously navigates a maze to collect items while avoiding “ghosts” in a manner similar to the video game from which it is inspired. The team competes in Harvard’s PacBot tournament and also hosts its own tournament at UIUC, attracting teams from across the Midwest. In recent years, Pacbot has done very well, winning back-to-back competitions in Cambridge!
Micromouse builds a small autonomous robot whose goal is to map and navigate a given maze as quickly as possible. As part of the Micromouse team, you’ll work with other members to design and wire sensors that can successfully accomplish this — and have a great time while doing soA
RoboSub is a very new team aiming to compete in the RoboSub competition in August 2026. The goal is to design, build and test an AUV (Autonomous Underwater Vehicle) that can accomplish a variety of tasks while submerged in a pool. The challenges of building a robot that can submerge and navigate underwater make RoboSub one of the newest and most unique project teams at UIUC!
