Solidworks

From iRobotics Tech Wiki

Solidworks is iRobotics Official CAD Program for the 2020-21 year, and sponsors installs for personal computers (Do Not use these instructions on school computers. The University has its own licenses).

Prerequisites

System Requirements

Its probably worth mentioning Solidwork's official minimum system requirements (here under Solidworks 2020). Many of our members have had success installing on less powerful hardware as well. A graphics card is highly recommended, as well as plenty of free RAM (8g will do the trick without other programs open), and [xxgb] free space.

It's recommended to uninstall previous versions of Solidworks if you have any installed. It is possible to keep both installed and licensed, but not typically recommended.

1. Creating an Account & Downloading

You'll need to create an account to get access to the download at solidworks.com/SEK this takes only a moment. You will also need iRobotics' Serial Number (you can get this from your captain). Do not share the Serial Number you're given.

Intro to Solidworks

This workshop is meant to be a basic primer on using Solidworks for making Robot Parts.

Part 1: My First Part

This Section Covers the basics of Boss's Extrudes and more. Most parts can be made just using extrusions. Page Here: Mechanical Workshops:Intro to Solidworks:My First Part

Part 2: A Little Bit More

This section goes over a a more complex part, but I believe in you guys. We're going to introduce some new features, and go a bit faster. Page Here: Mechanical Workshops:Intro to Solidworks:My Second Part

Part 3: Wheels?

This section will be our first revolved part! Page Here: Mechanical Workshops:Intro to Solidworks:My Third Part

Assm 1: My First Assembly

Assemblies are incredibly important for designing robots, so we're going to go over the basics (who would've guessed, they have more than 1 part?)
